Babyproofing

Since this is my 3rd baby there aren’t many pregnancy or parenting books out there that I haven’t already read.. let’s be honest that I’ve bought and have not read YET. However, none of those have any advice on 2 under 2.

Needless to say I’ve been following posts on, “what do I need to do before baby” and “what products I’ll need that I don’t already have” when you have 2 under 2.

Our due date is coming up so while I’m mostly trying to nap when my 16 month old naps and my almost 10 year old is at school, there are still things to be done.

The number one advice I’ve found..babyproofing MORE. I’m emphasizing MORE because I’ve already baby proofed the house. Heck, the house was babyproofed in preparation for my 16 month olds arrival knowing time is sparse with work, kids, a husband, and a home.. life in general.

I’ve done exactly what I did with my oldest and it works..for now. What about when I’m nursing a newborn that takes 30 minutes to eat? Do I want to get up running every time I hear something open? Do I want to panic wondering if my toddler got into the toilet? Babies and toddlers can drown in an instant with any standing water around! So I need to rule out the last toilet standing without a lock!

Right now I witness everything because I always know where my toddler is and I can be right there in a flash if he walks into the other room without me. If you’re a parent of 1 you get it but even then your kiddo probably gets into things when your back is turned for a second.

Hence, babyproofing ROUND 2.

This picture is toilet proofing gone all wrong..TWICE, okay 3 times. There are only 2 pieces of evidence left though. 😁 This is the kid’s bathroom. The side lock was my 1st and 2nd attempt. I initially installed it where the strap laid on the seat when you opened it up. Yep, butts on the lock.. no thank you! So I of course removed it, replaced it to where the strap stays on the lid and when my 9 year old got home he almost peed himself trying to get it open. Hence the reason for the front lock. He had ripped the lock right off the toilet bowl (so much for buying a different lock than the typical toilet locks so he only had to use 1 hand to openπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ!)

Enter lock number 3. It’s even easier than the last. I centered it, he can open this quickly, it still keeps the toddler out, it’ll be great I thought!

Well, it’s been a few months since I made the mistake with lock number 1, so you guessed it.. There will be a lock number 4. Why? Well, unlock the toilet, go to sit and what’s that between your legs? The darn strap.πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I connected it backwards, AGAIN. It’s just no bueno. (And yes. I’ll remove the other 2 1st.. it bothers my OCD also).😬

Babyproofing for baby 3 shouldn’t be so difficult. Maybe babies really do eat at your brain?!
